The health lesson I learned from Burn Notice

Michael Westen is obsessed with yogurt. In every episode of Burn Notice, he eats a cup of yogurt, opens the fridge to reveal that it’s filled with only yogurt, or Sam escapes a weird conversation with Fiona by slipping out to get some more yogurt for Michael.

What is that about?

Well, Michael Westen is cut (see photo). And yogurt is a super food.

I’ve talked about the general foods that fuel fat loss, but let’s highlight yogurt.

Women’s Health magazine boasts on its list of the 12 Best Foods for Your Abs that fat-free or low-fat dairy, like yogurt, builds strong bones and fires up weight loss. It also fights osteoporosis, obesity, high blood pressure and cancer.

In a guide to flatten your belly without starving yourself, Health Magazine says, “Take it from the dieters in a University of Tennessee study who ate 6 ounces of fat-free yogurt with every meal and lost 81% more abdominal fat than those who cut calories alone.”

So, I’m not really saying that you’ll get a Michael-Westen body if you eat yogurt everyday, but yogurt is an integral part of a balanced diet for weight loss or weight maintenance.

My favorites?

For a meal? Chobani Greek yogurt has so much protein, real fruit on the bottom, and almost all flavors are non-fat. Plus it’s thick, rich, and very filling. I love piling frozen mixed berries on top of a cup of the honey flavor. Passion fruit is also fantastic.

For a treat? Yoplait Whips! are mousse-like yogurts in dessert flavors. I like cherry cheesecake and chocolate. These are great little snacks that fulfill my sweet needs.
